Every semester it's all about finding a balance in between your school life and social life. Of course we have our education, responsibilities, work, organizations, and more that we need to worry about but what about ourselves? Before anything you are a PERSON first! You need to take care of you and make sure you're in a good state of mind to do anything. Here are some tips that I've picked up along the way to not overwork and stay sane
I don't know about you but I go crazy when things aren't organized. I can't be productive whatsoever if my room isn't organized & clean. What I would suggest is that you take one day out the week to thoroughly clean your room. You'll thank yourself later when you're in the midst of a busy week! Although last minute things do sometimes pop up, it would be easier to manage when you have everything you need to do laid out right in front of you. Personally, I plan out my week on Sunday's. Not necessarily the times I'm gonna do things but I plan what I will need to get done during that day to avoid stressing myself out. When you have everything laid out right in front of you, it's 10 times easier to actually get it done! Take a look at my very own planner. I like to fold the tabs once I finish that particular task!
Give Yourself A Day To You
In the midst of a crazy point of time in your life, it's important that you remember that you need time to yourself as well. Although there are things to do, it's important that you remember to take the time to pamper yourself and treat yourself! Try just having a pamper day whenever you're free!
Take Care Of Your Body
When being busy throughout the work week, it may be easy to just get fast food or food you know that isn't really the most nutritious. Too much of this can cause your body to shut down. I know from experience, I was eating TERRIBLY my 1st year of college plus being on a dance team & another organization. There were times where I got light headed & my body felt light. This is the most important part, your health! Take care of you so you can hustle. I would suggest fruits, salad, water for breakfast. If you're really on the go, try meal prep! Also, most schools have a gym or recreational center for their students that's included in their tuition, UTILIZE THIS! If your schedule allows it, try going to the gym at least 3 times a week. If not that, at least once.
This may seem tougher for others but you can't keep everything bottled up inside. Yes, college gets stressful at times. That's inevitable. But holding all your problems inside sometimes makes you an angrier person and that's not a good look for you. Find someone to talk to like a friend, boyfriend, parents, Resident Assistants, a Counselor, or someone on your campus.
DO NOT Procrastinate!
Now this is the part where taking my own advice gets kinda hard. Procrastination is always the biggest issue but here's my trick to overcome it, I try to do everything I have to do at least 3 days ahead of time. That's were getting organized comes into play!
There Are Resources On Your Campus, USE THEM.
The resources college campuses provide are amazing. The only thing is, a lot of students may not know about them. Try going to your department or even go online to your department and check out what they have available at your school!
Join Things, Go Out, Have Fun, Meet People!
I know this sounds a little scary, especially if you're a freshman but joining organizations & getting involved on campus is a major key. Not only are you meeting new people, you're networking! At college and in life, it's more about who you know rather than what you know.
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a prosperous Spring 2017!
Sincerely, Sharon B
